Industry: Wastewater

Sewage and Industrial Wastewater

Sewage and industrial wastewater from factories are treated through appropriate sewage and wastewater treatment processes based on water quality, before being discharged. Membrane filtration is used in wastewater treatment for suspended solids removal, as well as for recycling water by further filtering effluent after sewage and wastewater treatment.

Why Kuraray?

Reducing pretreatment requirements helps lower equipment costs, overall facility footprint, and running costs. Proprietary cleaning and hydrophilic coating technologies prevent membrane clogging for stable operation.

Performance required in the sewage and wastewater fields

Handling High-SS Wastewater

This application requires filtration of raw water with high suspended solids concentration. By filtering feed water directly, without the pretreatment normally required to reduce suspended solids concentration, overall system costs can be reduced.

High Water Recovery Rate

Sewage and wastewater recycling is often targeted at areas with high water and wastewater unit costs or water shortages, and requires that as much water as possible be recycled by reducing the volume of wastewater. Kuraray's proprietary air backwashing method enables membrane filtration with a high water recovery rate.

Combination with RO membrane

In sewage and wastewater recycling applications, RO membrane filtration is often introduced as a downstream process. Hollow fiber membrane modules with fine pores of 0.02 μm deliver stable filtered water quality and help prevent RO membrane fouling.

Fouling-Resistant Membrane Coating

In raw water with high concentrations of organic matter, the membrane is easily clogged by organic matter. Kuraray's proprietary hydrophilic coating technology suppresses organic matter adhesion to the membrane surface, preventing membrane fouling.
